Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Oil for frying vegetable or canola
- For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sprinkles for decoration
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, sour cream, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined
Fold in the chocolate chips
Heat oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer to 350F 175C
Spoon the donut batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off
Carefully pipe the batter into the hot oil, forming rings about 3 inches in diameter
Fry each donut for 2-3 minutes per side until they are golden brown and cooked through
Remove the donuts using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil
In a separate bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract until you have a smooth glaze
Dip each donut into the glaze, letting any excess drip off, then place them on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set slightly
While the glaze is still wet, decorate the donuts with sprinkles
Allow the glaze to fully set before serving your delicious glazed chocolate cake donuts!
